The 2018 Nanjing Wool Market Conference was held in Nanjing Jiangsu Province, China in 11-13th September. The NWM Conference is held in September each year.

Nanjing Wool Market spokesperson said that there were around 500 delegates and over 100 of these came from outside China. Participants include growers, traders, primary processors, spinners, weavers and garment manufacturers. It provided an excellent opportunity for all international delegates to meet with China’s biggest wool buyers and processors, all in one place. Exhibition space was provided for companies to exhibit their products and was well received by all.

Nanjing Wool Market Conference is an annual conference and the largest wool conference in the world. It is organised by China Wool Textile Association and Nanjing Wool Market. Main sponsored included AWI/The Woolmark Company, Hawkes Bay Woolscourers/Canterbury Woolscourers, Dalis, and SDIC.

Presentations included a report by Chris Wilcox Chairman of IWTO Market Intelligence Committee, outlining the unprecedented rise in the cost of merino wool as well as briefing delegates regarding the state of the textile industry worldwide.

The presentation by Ms Yang Xiaoxiong Chair of Nanjing Wool Market outlined the present situation regarding China’s wool industry and its future in the international wool industry. Most leading Chinese spinning and weaving companies have reported an increase in sales but a decrease in exports, again underlining the huge growth and expanding potential of Chinese domestic consumers.

Open forum discussions and the chatter outside the conference room mainly focused on the impact the US tariffs, and the impact of this on the wool textile industry in China. Although some put a brave face on, indicating that the tariffs will have little impact, you cannot help but sense that there is real concern about President Trump and his attitude to international trade.

Nanjing Wool Market Conference is an annual event held in September each year and overseas companies interested in attending the next conference should register their interest by contacting Nanjing Wool Market at
