More than 20 young wool professionals from eight countries will join the 85th IWTO Congress this year as part of IWTO’s Young Professionals Programme. More than double the number of participants from previous years, the increase has been made possible with the support of Congress co-Host FAWO (Federation of Australian Wool Organisations), in keeping with the Congress theme of “Wool for future generations”.

“Youth, education and knowledge are the key to a successful wool industry for today and the future,” said FAWO Chairman Robert Ryan. “We need the younger generation to keep the wool industry going through innovation, new technologies, creativity, training and our help to ensure a sustainable future for all.”

“The IWTO Congress occurs about once every ten years in Australia. So this is a great opportunity for the next generation to meet with all sections of the global and Australian wool industry.”

Designed to develop the next generation of wool leadership, the Young Professionals Programme invites junior staff to attend the Congress at a reduced fee, allowing them to build up their own networks while gaining first-hand knowledge of the latest trends in the industry. The Programme was relaunched in its current format at the 82nd IWTO Congress in Biella, Italy.

The Young Professionals will join the 300+ Congress delegates from 22 countries, 4-6 April in Sydney. The three-day event, one of the highlights of the wool industry calendar, will showcase the achievements of the Australian wool industry along with innovations in the global wool textile supply chain both on-farm and in processing.

In a dynamic and comprehensive programme put together by partner Australian Wool Innovation/The Woolmark Company, featured speakers include Paolo Zegna of Ermenegildo Zegna, Craig Vanderoef of adidas, Raffaello Napoleone of Pitti Immagine and Carla Zampatti, one of Australia’s most influential fashion designers.
