The next IWTO Congress will be held in Istanbul Turkey 15-17 May 2017. The Congress will be co-hosted by Turkish Textile Employers’ Association (TTEA). IWTO Congress brings together representatives from all parts of the global wool pipeline.

Following the success of the 2015 Wool Round Table, 2017 will take the wool industry back to Istanbul.

The world’s sixth largest exporter of textile and ready-to-wear, many of the biggest names in retail source from Turkey. Its main export markets are European, with Germany, the UK, France, Spain and the Netherlands being the top five. Turkey is also the third largest mohair producer in the world, and its wool industry is on the rise. Composed mainly of small to medium sized businesses, Turkey’s wool industry has expanded from its traditional base of worsted and woollen fabrics, military uniforms and blankets, to machine-made carpets, knitwear and hand knitting yarns.

Wool processing in Turkey has been increasing in the past decade, with more than 300,000 long-staple spindles being shipped to Turkey between 2005 and 2014. The main wool centres are concentrated in Istanbul and its environs, Çekezköy, Isparta, Gaziantep and Bursa.
