Air NZ and All Birds create the ‘bird mask’
Air New Zealand has announced a collaboration with San Francisco-based company All Birds. The two companies have teamed up to revolutionise the humble airline sleep mask.
The mask, dubbed “the bird mask”, is made from soft merino wool and has a quirky bird like design including a “beak” that means it eliminates light.
The new Bird Mask initiative is being touted as a boon to those wanting to sleep during long haul flights. It blocks out any light and is cool and pleasant to the touch. And as a sustainable fibre it is creating great interest from travellers.
A native of New Zealand, Tim Brown of All Birds was always well versed in the magical qualities of wool. Inherently curious, he began asking himself why such a remarkable, sustainable resource was virtually absent in the footwear industry.
After years of researching and tinkering, Tim teamed up with Joey Zwillinger, an engineer and renewables expert. Together, they crafted a revolutionary wool fabric made specifically for footwear. The outcome? An entirely new category of shoes inspired by natural materials, and an ongoing mantra to create better things in a better way. All Birds is owned by Tim Brown who set up in Silicon Valley is now selling $60 million worth of shoes every year.
