Australian carding wool prices keep rising

The price for Australian carding wools has been rising steadily, according to Paul Ferronato Wool Trading Manager at Victoria Wool Processors. He attributes this price increase to a rising demand particularly in the domestic sector in China, and limited supply coming onto the market.

The usual buyers of carding wools from Europe, South Korea and Japan are reluctant to buy at these higher prices and are staying out of the market. ‘The merino carding indicator had been at $8.40 only a short time ago. Last week in AUD terms it reached 9.97 per kilo. This represents $6.75 and $7.47 in US terms. There is now very little difference in price for fleece and carding wools’ he says.

‘Such sharp increases in such a short time is difficult to absorb for processors around the world’, says Mr Ferronato. ‘And it is likely that prices will stay at this level or go even higher. This is due to fewer sheep, less available wool, and strong demand.’

Victoria Wool Processors is the largest wool processor in Australia, processing a wide range of wool types and supplying top makers all around the world.
