Australian Wool Innovation Ltd (AWI), the research, development and marketing body of the Australian wool industry has announced the candidates for election to the Board who have met all requirements for nomination. Three candidates will contest the board positions to be made available at the 2015 AWI Annual General Meeting on November 20.

The AWI Constitution stipulates at least a third of the Board, currently made up of seven members, must retire their position every two years. Incumbent AWI directors Wal Merriman and David Webster will retire and re-stand for election at the 2015 AGM while director Brian van Rooyen will not re-stand after serving on the Board since 2002.

AWI Chairman Wal Merriman thanked and paid tribute to Mr van Rooyen saying he had “brought significant experience, insight and business acumen to the AWI board over many years and the board wishes him well in his future endeavours.”

One outside Board nominee has achieved the necessary 100 valid shareholder signatures as verified by the AWI share registry managed by Link Market Services, and will now stand as a candidate for the 2015 AWI Board election. This nominee is Jock Laurie, a past President of the NSW Farmers Association and the National Farmers Federation.

The AWI Board Nomination Committee will assess the skills of candidates as required under the Statutory Funding Agreement with the Federal Government. The Nomination Committee will deliver its report to the AWI Board and the report will be appended to the Notice of Annual General Meeting as part of the AWI shareholder voting pack.
