At the end of last year Segard Masurel, global wool trader, announced that it would no longer process wool at Cape of Good Hope Wool Combers, situated in Uitenhage, South Africa.

‘The changing nature of the wool industry and the change in the South African wool clip mean that the combing of wool in South Africa is no longer competitive in today’s global market. It is indeed a hard decision to end a 70 year relationship with Cape of Good Hope Wool Combers’, says Olivier Segard, managing director of Segard Masurel group.

Segard Masurel will continue to work in South Africa, in brokering and exporting greasy wool.

‘Our brokering company, Segard Masurel Wool Brokers Pty Ltd remains committed to our many wool grower customers across the country and they will continue to benefit from the group’s wool trading and topmaking expertise’.

‘Topmaking remains a strong focus for the Segard Masurel group; we will build on our existing relationships and partnerships with quality combing mills around the world.’

The Segard Masurel group will also continue and develop further a supply of raw materials from all major origins, including sustainability and traceability practices along the supply chain.

The Segard Masurel Group has been in the wool business for 172 years and has operating offices in Australia, Belgium, France, New Zealand, and South Africa.
