The third sale of the 2018 winter mohair season took place in Port Elizabeth, with an offering of 171 602.8 kg’s.

The offering consisted of good individual clips, although the clean yield percentage was lower than the previous sale, which had the biggest influence on the kid mohair market indicator, which decreased by 2.1%.

Although the demand for mohair is still good, the stronger South-African currency had a negative impact on the market, with the biggest impact on the adult segment of the market.

The average market indicator decreased by 5.6% from the previous sale to close on R292.27 p/kg, with 99% of the offering sold.

A highest price of R500.00 p/kg was paid for a bale of good style 25 micron kid mohair.

Compared to the previous sale, prices were as follows:

Kids (winter) Down 2.1%

Young Goats (winter) Down 3.9%

Fine Adults Down 6.5%

Strong Adults Down 6.1%

Average Down 5.6%

Main buyers: Samil (Pty) LTD 501 bales, Stucken & Co (Pty) LTD 474, Mosenthals Wool & Mohair 267, Suedwolle Group 75, New England Wool SA 13.

The fourth sale of the 2018 winter season will take place on 16 October 2018.
