Mohair Market Report (28 March 2017)
The third sale of the 2017 summer season took place in Port Elizabeth today, with currency volatility making trading difficult. A total of 157 551 kg’s was on offer, with 91% of the offering being sold and the market indicator closing unchanged from the previous sale on R184.74 p/kg.
The market started off somewhat sluggish, but improved later during the sale, although one of the buying houses could not compete on today’s sale due to unforeseen circumstances. Due to the drought conditions the offering was quite fine, resulting in good competition for the limited quality strong adult hair on offer, with the market
indicator for this sector gaining 1%.
A highest price of R350.00 p/kg was paid for a bale of 24 micron good style kid mohair.
Compared to the previous sale, prices were as follows:
Kids (summer) Up 1%
Young Goats (summer) Down 3%
Fine Adults Unchanged
Strong Adults Up 1%
The fourth sale of the 2017 summer season will take place on 11 April 2017.
