The penultimate sale of the 2017 mohair summer season took place in Port Elizabeth on 25 May. A fairly large volume of 136 734 kg was on offer, with 96.8% of the offering sold. The offering consisted of very good quality mohair in general, including some excellent individual clips.

Despite a stronger SA currency, the market continued on an upward trend and closed 1% higher on R197.83 p/kg. There was strong competition from all the buying houses on today’s auction, with the better qualities receiving extra attention from the buyers.

With consistent export figures, showing steady demand and only one sale remaining this summer season, buyers had to compete to secure their stock positions. A highest price of R440.00 p/kg was paid for a bale of good style 25 micron kid mohair.

Compared to the previous sale, prices were as follow: Kids (summer) Up 4%; Young Goats; (summer) Up 1%; Fine Adults Unchanged; Strong Adults Unchanged Average Up 1%

Main buyers: Stucken & Co 362 males, Samil 349, Mosenthals  252, SAFIL 55, New England Wool 54.

The last sale of the 2017 summer season will take place on 6th of June 2017.
