Mohair South Africa (MSA) recently attended the distinguished Mercedez Benz Fashion Week in Johannesburg to support one of the biggest names in fashion and an icon in the industry, Marianne Fassler, of Leopard Frock. Fassler included mohair and silks in her beautiful range that left the crowd with a new found respect for natural fibres; showing the versatility and pure quality of mohair and all it has to offer.

MSA also supported Armand Dicker, a name worth noting, who represented the brand in a big way.

Armand, former MSA bursary student, made top four of AFI Fastrack which gives design students a head start in their fashion careers, allowing them to network and learn from some of the most celebrated designers in the industry. AFI Fastrack is an annual design programme which picks 12 of the most promising designers; giving them a platform to showcase a capsule collection at Fashion Week. Out of the top twelve, four students were chosen to show their collection at the prestigious Mercedez Benz Fashion Week in South Africa. Each winner also received a great cash prize and an opportunity to complete an internship with an established designer to develop another range to compete for AFI Designer of the Year. Dicker was congratulated by the First Lady on the announcement and the crowd was impressed when his showstopper black mohair hide coat hit the ramp.

Dicker’s range formed part of his third year mohair sponsored collection at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). Previous PE students that have made top 12 were Laduma Ngxokolo and Ruth McNaughton who are both making a big impact on the local and international catwalks.

Lindsay Humphreys of MSA added “It was such an honour to attend this event and see the creative and breathtaking creations of two designers who really know how to bring our brand to life. This luxury fibre is seen on catwalks all over the world and is also celebrated globally, but it was a great moment to see mohair strutting its stuff right here at home.”
