Götz Giebel has been elected president of INTERWOOLLABS, having served some six years as vice prosident. INTERWOOLLABS, International Association of Wool Textile Laboratories is closely linked to IWTO, but operates independently. Its purpose is to develop co-operation between wool testing laboratories and to ensure that all members reach the highest standards of testing accuracy and qualifies for Interwoollabs industry respected accreditation stamp and certificate.

It established the first set of Fineness Calibration Tops covering the range from 17.8µm to 35.0µm in 1972 to improve the harmonisation between laboratories using the Airflow apparatus. To reflect the continuing trend towards finer wool the latest series of IH Standards includes values from 15.71µm to 35.37 µm with a 14.5 µm top purchased in 2014 to be included in future IH Standards. Up until 2014 INTERWOOLLABS has issued 19 different series of Calibration Tops, each valid for two years.

‘The work of INTERWOOLLABS is about keeping up standards, offering the industry support in the field of micron and length testing, and ensuring its sound financial standing’, says Götz Giebel. ‘One of our main aims is getting new members, we currently have 98 and we expect this to increase’.

Mr Giebel, well known in the wool industry, spending five years trading wool in Bremen for W.A. Fritze GmbH Co.KG before gaining further experience in Australia and in New Zealand in wool appraisal, farm stays, working withexporters and at a scouring mill. He then spent  seven years as purchasing manager at BWK (Bremer Woll Kämmerei AG, Bremen), sourcing raw material from all wool growing countries for Bremen and later Geelong based combing mills, and a further 18 years with Suedwolle GmbH & Co KG, Nürnberg as a purchasing director and sales director for circular knitting yarns.

Since early 2014 Mr Giebel has run his own consultancy company and is involved in a number of projects from raw material to ready made garments internationally.

INTERWOOLLABS is managed by Andrew Lambert, Secretary General of the association together with the honorary President and Treasurer. ‘Our management committee includes seven industry experts from five countries, all matters affecting our members are discussed and dealt with during regular meetings of the committee throughout the year.’
