The combined North and South Island wool auctions this week comprising 13600 bales saw a 79 percent clearance with most types continuing to ease.


The weighted currency indicator was down 0.46 percent compared to last week, having nominal impact.


Restricted customer buying activity combined with the pending Christmas break and increased wool availability in January is limiting price levels currently.


Compared to the last time offered on 1st December in the South Island; Merino fleece of average to poor style were 3 to 5 percent cheaper. Mid Micron fleece were down 1.5 to 2.5 percent. Fine crossbred shears were 1.5 to 5 percent easier in both centres.


Compared to the North Island Sale on 8th December; Coarse fleece were 2.5 to 6 percent cheaper for good style, firm to 5 percent cheaper for average style and firm to 1.5 percent cheaper for poor style. Coarse shears 3 / 5 and 3 / 4 inches were generally firm to 3 percent cheaper with good style 2 / 4 and 2 / 3 inches attracting strong interest, being firm to 3 percent dearer.


Long oddments were 2 to 3 percent dearer for good style and up to 7 percent cheaper for poor styles. Short oddments were firm to 7 percent dearer.


Wide spread interest with Western Europe, Australasia and China principals, supported by India, Western Europe and United Kingdom.


Main buyers: NZ Wool Services 2730 bales, Masurel 2700, Fuhrmann 1270, Bloch & Behrens 1020, Chargeurs 450, G Modiano 450, IWL 430, W G Robinson 350, Ascot 320, Marshall 150, and H. Dawson 150.


Next sale on 21st December comprises approximately 6800 bales from the North Island.
