NZWTA has upgraded its Napier laboratory with new innovative testing equipment. ‘This investment will bring a number of significant benefits to our customers, including increased capacity and improved service times’, says a company spokesperson.

WEATHERING CHAMBER / FASTNESS TESTING Environmental testing is performed to see how various products will react to extreme conditions of temperature, humidity, UV exposure, water, etc. ‘Having the right equipment is critical to cover the scope of weathering and light fastness testing requirements in New Zealand’, he says.

‘Our instruments use full spectrum xenon arc lamps with precise measurement of temperature using black panel and chamber sensors. We also accurately control the relative humidity and light intensity during testing – this is essential for compliance with many international standards.

‘An assortment of filters can be used to match different exposure conditions and as such our instruments can be used to test to a variety of international test methods across many sectors, including: plastics pigments, textiles, flooring materials, sealants and coatings.

Colour measurement is a critical specification in a number of fields. Robust instruments are needed for accurate measurements and to meet tight specifications across applications such as: powders, liquids, granules, textiles, coatings, plastics and other solids.

One common application in New Zealand, specified in AS/NZS 1906.4:2010 is for high-visibility fabrics where colour space and luminance are measured.
