H Dawson business is restructuring in order to focus more closely on sustainable areas including eco-sourced fibres, traceability and enhanced natural fibre technologies.

 

Jo Dawson says ‘In recent years, the fourth generation of the Dawson family has widened the portfolio of wool-based businesses in which they have an involvement. These include the iconic Axminster Carpets, the original manufacturer and inventor of the Axminster weave; Woolroom, an internet retailer of wool-based sleep solutions; HDWool Active Insulation, a provider of sustainable and performance-led garment insulation; and the core raw material supply business H. Dawson Natural Fibre Technologies.

 

Jo Dawson comments that ‘the British wool industry embodies our national ancestry of landscapes, island communities, technologies and trade. We are defined by this history but are now bound by a new journey forward. 131yr old H. Dawson Wool is modernising its industry approach by creating innovative sustainable solutions to meet the needs of the consumer of today and tomorrow. In order to better represent this change of focus, the company is rebranding as H Dawson Natural Fibre Technologies.’

 

‘Core to the business will be traceable value chains, allying natural fibre solutions that diminish the reliance upon man-made fibres with ecological technologies’, says Jo Dawson. ‘From an existing activity base in this area, the company will increase its focus on delivering responsibly sourced eco-fibres combined with ecological finishes. By 2025 the company’s vision is to source wool and eco-fibres from farms practising regenerative agriculture techniques and to supply them to partners that will help communicate their beneficial message to consumers worldwide.’

 

Under the leadership of Jo Dawson, H Dawson Natural Fibre Technologies will work with internal and external customers to supply traceable wool and complementary eco-fibres allied with exclusive ecological finishes that solve problems caused by changes in global textile regulations. The commitment of the company to embrace the market need for ecological solutions and provenance presents the business with a clear direction to communicate a virtuous lifecycle of wool from soil to soil. This direction represents a collective of people who are passionate about delivering valuable products that promote genuine sustainable and positive environmental and social change.
